Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty: Gov’t begins phased payments to eligible beneficiaries
Payments under the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) Programme have begun across Ghana.
The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection said payments to eligible households started on Monday, September 14, 2026.
The disbursement follows the verification and enrolment of households that qualified under the reassessed LEAP programme.
The Ministry has urged beneficiaries to remain patient as the payments are being made in phases.
LEAP is the government’s flagship cash transfer programme for extremely poor and vulnerable households.
The programme provides regular financial support to help beneficiaries meet their basic needs. It also supports food security and access to health and education.
The latest payments follow a comprehensive reassessment of LEAP beneficiary households.
The exercise was carried out to ensure that support reaches households that need it most.
The Ministry said some existing beneficiaries may no longer need LEAP support because their circumstances have improved. Others may continue to qualify for assistance.
The reassessment also identified extremely poor and vulnerable households that were previously not covered by the programme.
Households found eligible have since undergone verification and enrolment. They will receive their grants through the approved payment system.
The Ministry said LEAP payments will be made in phases across the country.
It therefore urged successfully enrolled beneficiaries to remain patient during the process.
“Successfully enrolled persons are urged to remain patient as the process runs its course; failure to receive payment at the start of the exercise does not mean a beneficiary has been excluded from the Programme.”
Beneficiaries have been advised to wait for official notifications from the LEAP Management Secretariat, District Social Welfare Offices and authorised community-level officers.
The Ministry also urged beneficiaries to avoid unnecessary travel to payment points or District Social Welfare Offices.
Beneficiaries should only visit these locations when officially notified or when they need help with a grievance.
The Ministry has stressed that beneficiaries do not have to pay any fee, commission or facilitation charge to receive their LEAP grants.
“Anyone demanding money or other consideration in connection with this exercise should be reported immediately through the established grievance channels.”
Beneficiaries with concerns about their reassessment, enrolment or payment can contact their Community Focal Person or District Social Welfare Office.
They can also contact the LEAP Management Secretariat on the toll-free numbers 0800 800 800 and 0800 900 900.

The Ministry said the start of the payments marks another step towards making LEAP more targeted, transparent and accountable.
It said the programme will continue to focus on Ghana’s poorest and most vulnerable households.
