O/R: Three remanded after Police uncover 5,164 suspected narcotics parcels
Three suspects have been remanded into Police custody after the Oti Regional Police Command intercepted a DAF articulator truck carrying 5,164 compressed parcels suspected to contain narcotic substances.
The suspects were arrested on September 14, 2026, after Police, acting on intelligence, intercepted the truck with registration number GE 3906-15.
Police suspected that the vehicle was transporting narcotic substances hidden in secret compartments. A search of the truck led to the discovery of the suspected narcotics.
The Police statement said, “A search of the concealed compartments led to the discovery of 5,164 compressed round parcels suspected to contain narcotic substances.”
The suspects have been identified as Abdul Razak Adamu, 35, a driver; Jubril Amidu, 33, a mechanic; and Aliu Adamu, 33, a driver.
A fourth occupant, identified as Adamu Iddi, escaped after the truck was intercepted.
The three arrested suspects were arraigned before the Dambai Circuit Court on September 17, 2026.
The case was presided over by His Lordship Justice Dr Moses Bedima Duut, who remanded the suspects into Police custody.
They are expected to reappear before the court on October 15, 2026.
The Police have impounded the DAF articulator truck, while the suspected narcotics have been secured as exhibits for further investigation.
Investigators are also working to apprehend the escaped suspect and identify other people who may be connected to the consignment.
The Police statement added, “Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the escaped suspect and identify other persons connected to the consignment.”
The ongoing investigation will seek to establish how the suspected narcotics were transported and whether other individuals were involved.
The Oti Regional Police Command said it remains committed to combating narcotics trafficking and organised crime in the region.
The Command stated, “The Oti Regional Police Command assures the public of its continued commitment to combating narcotics trafficking and organised crime and urges the public to provide credible information to assist the police.”
The Police have appealed to anyone with credible information that could help locate the escaped suspect or identify others linked to the consignment to assist investigators.
The Command said the interception forms part of its continued intelligence-led efforts to detect and disrupt narcotics trafficking and organised crime in the Oti Region.
