GFA launches 2026/27 colts season with over 850 active teams

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has launched the 2026/27 Colts Football Season, with more than 850 teams currently active across Ghana.

The launch took place at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram. It brought together GFA officials, former Black Stars players and legends, sponsors, coaches, team owners and young footballers.

GFA President Kurt Okraku said the Association had worked to revive Colts football over the past six years. “In the last six years, we’ve resurrected Colts Football,” Okraku said.

He said the GFA had invested in the competition and introduced more Colts-related tournaments to give young players more opportunities. “We’ve invested in Colts football and introduced Colts-related competitions than ever before,” he added.

The GFA says more than 850 Colts teams are now active across the country. The Association also plans to continue investing in Colts football and creating more competitions for young players.

Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan welcomed the renewed focus on the competition. Gyan said he was happy after seeing President John Dramani Mahama speak about Colts football.

“I saw President John Mahama talking about Colts football on TV and I was impressed and very happy,” he said. He said Colts football remains important to Ghana and urged participating teams to improve their standards. “Colts football is very important to Ghanaians. I urge all the Colts teams to do better,” Gyan added.

The GFA’s renewed push comes after President Mahama raised questions about the state of Colts football in Ghana. The Association has since continued efforts to rebuild the competition and strengthen its role in developing young footballers.

The GFA says it will maintain that focus during the 2026/27 season.

The new season is expected to give more young players the chance to develop their skills and gain competitive experience.
