GRNMA seeks early release of remanded Nurse, Salomey Bafoh
The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) says it is working with the lawyers of Principal Nursing Officer Salomey Awiti Bafoh to explore legal options for her early release after she was remanded by the Adenta Circuit Court.
Bafoh was remanded into custody on Thursday, September 17, 2026, after pleading not guilty to a charge of abetment of crime, specifically the alleged publication of false news.
According to the prosecution, Bafoh allegedly acted as a liaison for the UK-based social media personality Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, popularly known as “Ghana Jollof”, and helped disseminate videos from the TikTok account by recruiting others to redistribute the content across social media platforms.
The prosecution further alleges that Kodua transferred money to Bafoh to support the alleged activities, with portions of the funds subsequently distributed to others involved in circulating the videos. Kodua is currently at large. The allegations have not been established by the court yet.
The lawyers of Bafoh applied for bail, citing her permanent employment, fixed place of residence and family responsibilities. The prosecution opposed the application, arguing that investigations were ongoing. The court subsequently refused bail, with reports indicating that the allegations raised national security concerns.
The GRNMA said its 1st Vice President, Mr Samuel Alagkora Akolgo (Esq), led a team from the Association to the Adenta Circuit Court to show solidarity with Bafoh during the court proceedings.
“The leadership of the Association is in touch with her lawyers to explore all legal remedies for her early release,” the GRNMA said.
The Association has urged members to remain calm and resolute as its national leadership engages with the legal process.
“All members are strongly urged to remain calm but resolute as National Leadership navigates this legal hurdle,” the statement added.
The GRNMA said further communication would be issued as developments unfold.
